Change Makers: Paraval Co & Amani Hope Foundation

Many individuals and organizations have partnered with the Amani Hope Foundation to see the lives of underprivileged children in Ghana, Tanzania and Zimbabwe transformed out of a place of hopelessness into awakened destinies and hope restored. We are surrounded by change makers yearning for opportunities to impact others with their resources, time, and expertise.

Being a change maker is simply driven by passion; the same passion that Omer Paracha and his team at Paraval Co have for children in Africa. Jack Robinson states that “a life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives”; 2 years ago AFR Clothing co-founder and Chief Donor of the Amani Hope Foundation gave a speech at the Millennium Campus Conference 2014 that set Omer Hameedullah Paracha on an unstoppable journey to influence others.

Since establishing Paraval Clothing, Omer has donation twice to the Amani Hope Foundation; a $450.00 donation in 2015 and $3000.00 in July 2016.

At the donation handover, our team had the opportunity to learn more about Omer and hope he inspires readers to become change makers.

Q: When was the light bulb moment that led you to start Paraval Clothing?

A: Two years ago, in my dorm room. I was showing my mom my photography, and she said “ you should put it on a t-shirt.” I did so, and soon a friend of mine wanted to buy it from me for 20 dollars.  The thought of selling never crossed my mind; Back then I was using a typography design format that resonated with him, he encouraged me to sell because he was confident that people would be interested in my style of fashion.

Q: Why fashion as opposed to anything else?

A: When I think about fashion, I think about its ability to influence not only a young but also a grown-up market; fashion influences generations. I wanted to influence a generation enough to use that influence to help people.

Q: What led you to decide to partner with the Amani Hope Foundation?

A: I saw their message, which was bringing kids into better suitable environments and educating them. I connected with that mission and regarded it as one of my goals, and wanted to pledge a percentage of my clothing profits to empower even more children.

Q: How has Paraval’s culture of giving back inspired your employees?

A: The first half of my employees quit on me, so the journey getting here was hard. They must not have believed in the brand enough to stick through. Eventually I was able to find partners whose goals mesh with mine, and now we stand together as a team that is focused on making a better future for the youth. We all want to be able to reach and impact a generation enough to help get them to where they’re supposed to be.

Q: Paraval is currently educating one Amani Hope Scholar and is poised to educate more with this donation; what do you hope the new scholars will learn about you and Paraval Clothing?

A: Personally, I’m just somebody who’s trying to utilize his brand to help people. I don’t really desire to be a known “figure” per say. As a brand, I want these kids to know that there are people out there who think of them and want to influence their lives in a positive way.

Q: If you could spend a whole day doing something recreational that has nothing to do with work, what would it be?

A: Taking pictures! Or going diving. I’d love to get certified as a scuba diver.

Thanks to Omer generous donation, more children will have a safe place to learn the necessary steps needed to fulfill their dreams.
